Cats are very sociable animals, and encouraging and providing socialisation with both other cats and humans at a young age is important in the development of their personalities and behaviours. Handling and playing with kittens helps them learn social and motor skills, and expend their abundant energy.
Not only is playtime a source of entertainment for you kitten and a form of bonding, it also allows you to develop manners in your kitten.
During play, if the kittens claws come out, you should immediately stop playing with it; this is more effective than physical punishment as the kitten will not associate the punishment with the mistake.
Also, you do not want your kitten to practise hunting on wildlife – by keeping your cat indoors at night and attaching a small bell to their collar, it can aid you in keeping track of it and allow native animals to be safe.
